Sorry this took so long, Christmas made things a bit hectic and took up a lot of my time. Here are the correct answers:

The scores are as follows:

Kaezion: 51 (Perfect)
Darkness: 43
Baseball: 38
Nuu: 35
Charlie: 35

Congrats to Kaezion with a set of perfect answers! Thanks to everyone who participated! The reward was supposed to be 1k gil to the winner. Because of certain circumstances (I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about bluetongue.gif), I no longer have that gil to give away. I am going to try and persuade Cspace or another Admin to grant the winner the 1k reward, but as the power is not mine, there will be no promises.

or

Old Kinderhook

Define, using a graph, the natural number, e.

e = 2.71828

The above graph shows the graph of y = 1/x.  If you were to fill in the area bounded by that curve and the x-axis, starting from x = 1, when you reach x = e, the area is perfectly equal to 1.

This means that as the number n gets bigger and bigger, the answer to the fomula gets closer and closer to e.

It stands for Old Kinderhook. The first recorded use of OK was in the spring of 1839 by the Boston Morning Post:

This is one of two acceptable theories, the other involves Andrew Jackson, which is probably the better answer.

This is one of two acceptable theories, the other involves Andrew Jackson, which is probably the better answer.

2.1: Carolus Linnaeus

Correct

2.2: Stockholm

I'm not sure whether or not Stockholm had 4, but I don't think so.

2.3: In the Gulf of Mexico

Yup

3.1: Samuel Langhorne Clemens

Yup

3.2: Beowulf

Yup

3.3: Thorn.

Yup

4.1: ax2 + bx + c = 0

Should be ax^2... At first I was going to say no, but if you copy-pasted it, the superscript wouldn't have carried through to the forum. Had it done so, it would have been correct.

4.2: Sphere (everone knows that, therefore I probably got it wrong)

Nope

4.3:

Should be (1+1/n)^n... once again, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that the superscript was in what you copied that from.

5.1: The Urals

Yes

5.2: 23

Nope

5.3: The metal detector.

Yup

Meh, it was a good effort from me for a research period of 20 mins.

- Babylon (Rev 16:16 by the way)

Nope

Question 3: 5 Points
Who was the first to use the word "ok" and what does it stand for?
- This can't be answered with certainty due to the fact that it has many origins, none of which can be proven to be the first. From Andrew Jackson, to Van Buren, to the OK Club, and can also mean oll korrect. It has many meanings depending on which theory you use. However, all theories suggest is was derived around the 19th century.

You got what I was looking for

Correct

Initially Fort Prince George (named by the British), later renamed Fort Duquesne by the French.

Question 2: 3 Points
Name the biblical city from where we derive the word Armegeddon.
Megiddo

Question 3: 5 Points
Who was the first to use the word "ok" and what does it stand for?
Andrew Jackson (the 7th U.S. President) used it as an acronym for "oll korrect" by which he meant "all correct."

Cone

Question 3: 6 Points
Define the natural number, e, and show how it is defined graphically.
The limit of (1 + 1/n)^n as n goes to infinity. If you take the area under the graph of 1/x starting from x = 1, then e is the x value you need to stop at if you want the area to be 1 (the definite integral of (1/t) dt from 1 to e is 1). Please tell me you get that, or I will have to actually draw a Paint image.

Category 5: Random

Question 1: 2 Points
What mountain range divides Europe and Asia?
The Ural Mountains

Question 2: 3 Points
How many chromosome pairs does a human haploid cell have?
A human haploid cell has 23 chomosomes, but no pairs. Diploid cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes (making for 46 total of chromosomes), but a haploid cell has only half the number, because the pairs have been split.

Question 3: 5 points

Metal detector (to try to find the bullet lodged in Garfield's back).

All of them are right.  Congrats on your perfect answers

Sorry about the 6 posts in a row, but they were kinda lengthy. It was done, not because I was afraid of exceding length parameters, but rather, because it helped the organization. It took me some time to do this, so no yelling! screama.gif
