Something to do with Humpty Dumpty I'd say, because lines 3 and 4 are the same in the nursery rhyme and the riddle.

That's hickory, Pen.
I do believe it's an egg. That's the impression I've had about humpty dumpty for just about all my life. He was a giant egg that wore a suit and a bowler derby and liked to sip tea.
And it's no suprise it was the king's door, though I can't imagine how a peasant could've gotten close enough. Most kings were usurpers and were much hated in their kingdoms.
That and eggs are sticky
