There are still a few things here and there that will need to be fixed (such as the formatting of some of the pages linked from the left), but the upgrade has pretty much happened successfully. Just keep in mind that there was a rollback for the gallery, and all uploaded files were cleaned out. This includes uploaded avatars. You just need to upload them again, no worries with that. Also, as you can see there is only one skin right now. More will come, no need to worry about that either. bluetongue.gif

Also, a couple of our modifications could not transfer over to the new forums. This includes the shop. However, an update is supposedly in the works it to work with our version, and when it is stable it will be brought back. Your data has not been lost as it pertains to the shop, even though the modification is not online at the moment. Along with this, a few external sections of the site have been removed for the time being, for one reason or another. They won't be forgotten, so don't be surprised if they come back somehow in the future.

Anyway, enough with that, what's new?

********************************************************

I can't list everything, there are a ton of changes here and there. I'll go through what's readily important.

- Everyone has two names now: A username and a display name. New registrations allow them both to be chosen right off the bat. Current and future members also have the ability to change their display names in their profile. This means that you can change your name, but your login will remain the same (for example, user JohnDoe can be known as "UberFragg0rz" on the forums, even though his username has never changed from "JohnDoe"). AGAIN, YOUR USERNAME FOR LOGIN WILL REMAIN THE SAME. Don't try to log in with your display name, it won't work. bluetongue.gif The changes are limited though: Currently you can change your display name once every half-year. This will prevent confusion from temporary or joke name changing, since you probably won't want to be stuck with a messed up name for that long.

- Increased user security. I set it so you can only be logged into one computer at once. When you log in from another computer, the cookies will reset, and the cookies on the previous computer will not work until you log in again from there. Do not lean on this for security, you should still log out from public computers, but in the case that you forget or something else happens it could save you.

- Revamped post screen.

- Some pages have a drop-down box near the top to organize actions that can be done.

- You can, if you wish, edit your posts within the thread screen now.

- Poll creation can be done within a new thread, as opposed to being an entirely different kind of thread as before.

- Improved search. Quickly search within threads, a forum, or do a more advanced search than before with the usual search utility.

- Forums are docked, but should behave like the previous 'undocked' forums as far as queries go. This is because the right-hand linkbar, with the database-driven content, is set to unload completely in the forum view (as opposed to just being hidden). I moved the board menu to the left so it's accessible within the forums. The left-hand linkbar can still be hidden as before, freeing the forums to appear more like the previous undocked forums without the query issues in the background. The undocked forums have been removed for technical reasons.

- Among other things here and there.

Expect more modifications to come.

Great update and I'm wondering one thing, if I was to change my display name do I have a chance to change it back if I don't like it before the half year, or does the once per half year apply there also. What I'm saying is, if you can't change it back because you may not like it, could it be feasible to change it to twice per half year for those purposes. I feel it would still remove the "joke names", but allow people to revert back to their original username. Maybe there is a way to allow changes back to the username anyway, but now I'm just blabbing on. bluetongue.gif

At the moment, no. Perhaps later, but right now it's probably best that it can't be changed back within that period (otherwise it would be used by many for temporary or joke names, as we had issues with before with the name change item).

Just fixed the stretching table issue on the post screen. Also set things so if a user double-posts within three minutes, the posts are automatically merged together.

Which kinda sucks, as I'm in the habit of using ALT shortcuts for BBCode. <_<

Everything else is very much not sucky, though. Except that I have to find my avatar again bluetongue.gif

Looking good, it'll take some getting used to but it certainly seems like an improvement.

Hehe, there is a skin called 'Demented'. bluetongue.gif

I have trademarked the symbol: '™'. You fail at display names.

Thanks Cspace! thumb.gif

Some other things are more topions when posting (more color choices when you click on 'A', so you don't have to google some HTML color table), and you can make more than one question for polls. On other forums I've seen "public polls" though, where you can see the names of everyone that voted (their names are listed under the option they voted for). I don't see an option for it, but do we have these, too?

Yay! Much coolioness! I especially like the idea for the display names, and the merge-double-posts-within-three-minutes thing. Oh, and, Callum, that long pic in your sig is stretching my screen. icon_sweatdrop.gif Now I just need to find a good display name... bluetongue.gif
