I bring this up because some have been confusing this forum for the RS faction forum, and it's spreading out activity as well as bringing a lot of that faction's stuff to GD.

General Discussion is technically the forum for any potential topic that isn't spam (and sometimes, isn't a signature thread). Posts here get quick non-targeted views, which is its purpose contrary to the specialized forums which get targeted views and provide a longer thread life.

However, I've just been receiving some scattered complaints about the Runescape threads in this forum, and figured that I should bring this up to discuss it.

So... I'll leave it at that. Thanks for any input you wish to provide. TheSmile.gif

(keep in mind that it is for a temporary state, not a permanent non-RS forum)

Yes, I believe RuneScape threads should be moved to the forum 'RuneScape: SeeD Faction'. When a new member that plays RuneScape joins, I want to be able to direct them to one forum, not that they should root through the threads in GD.

Look at it this way, you don't see any GW or WoW threads here. And I personally know that active GW players will check the GW forum, because they know anything GW-related will be posted there. The same should go for RuneScape. It may take some getting used to more some, but it's not too difficult. grnwink.gif

Agreed. I start to find that I have next to no reason to come into GD.. The topics I find would be about games, which if I wanted to look at, I'd be in the particular forum for it. Sifting through RS topics and welcome topics and signature topics to find other topics makes a job out of what could be just a casual browse.

Yeah, there is no point in having a RuneScape forum if all threads relating to RuneScape are not moved there.

Agreed with all above posts. What good is a RuneScape Faction forum if the topics are split between two?
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.

I'd quite like to see many of the less active specialised boards being used (and checked) more frequently, the RS threads thing was just the most prominent example. Since not everyone can see what I've said on the subject already, I'll quickly sum up my reasoning.

As you can already see from some of the replies here, people that don't play RS are feeling a bit alienated when so many RS-specific topics are being posted in our 'general' board, causing people to have to go searching through them.
At the same time, I feel it's detrimental to the people posting and replying to these topics. GD gets a lot more views and activity than other boards, but topics get buried more quickly. And if a fair percentage of the board isn't interested at all in RS-related topics, these topics will get buried more quickly than other types of topics. Furthermore, splitting similar topics between several different boards means that fewer people check the RS Faction board, and fewer people will look through all the active topics in GD to find the ones relevant to the faction. If RS topics were only being posted in the Faction board it would be considerably easier to keep track of things, and very soon the board would be getting more views than it does currently. People would know that the board was worth checking, and the people who were checking it would actually be interested in the topics.

I think that's basically what I'd been saying in other places. Less clutter that won't interest non-RS players, more of a RS-playing audience for topic-posters, easier to keep track of which topics to read and reply to. All Runescape topics used to be sent to SeeD Inn (before the Factions situation existed), and that seemed to work quite well. Recently there has been a move towards not moving topics unless they're really, really in the wrong place. While it's good to have a general-purpose board like GD, my personal feeling is that it's not really using the other boards to their fullest. If people aren't posting topics in other places then there isn't any reason to check them, and if nobody checks them then posting topics there doesn't work either. With a little push from the Administration and the mod team towards making the other boards more active again that can all be resolved fairly quickly, but it doesn't tend to fix itself without intervention.

I don't really think there's anything I can add to what's already been said, though I will say, yes, I do believe they should be moved to the Runescape faction forum. The point is, it promotes organization, and makes it much easier for any Runescape players out there to find what they're looking for, while making it so that people who don't play Runescape don't have to look at the Runescape threads, and have their own threads buried by it.

I mean, it still stands that GD is open do any actual discussion, and that could certainly include Runescape-related topics, but it just makes it a lot easier for everyone. Of course, this doesn't mean that we're suddenly going to be translating this ruling onto other subjects - it's not as if music-related topics will automatically be moved to Media Discussion. bluetongue.gif

Well even though most of the older Seeds dont play rs anymore, the prodominant still play rs, so a new member wouldn't know whether to post in GD or RS faction, Maybe the Factions should be moved higher on the topic list so new members clan clearly see it.

It shouldn't be a fight for the top for all of our forums. The faction forums are where they should be, and we shouldn't have to re-order them just to grab peoples' attentions. It isn't a matter of members not know where the forum is, it's a matter of members need to know that's where ALL RuneScape threads should go. (I know where you're coming from since I just recently promosed another forum to be moved up on the list. I also learned though that it doesn't change much, because a member isn't going to change their interests based on the order of our forums.)Also, we're not promoting RuneScape over other games. It may be true that we have more active RuneScape members than other games, but that doesn't mean we should promote it above all others.

Yes, they should be moved because many of our newer players might think that they are supposed to post in the general discussion with RS stuff. I've noticed many things that belong in the Runescape Faction are scatterd all over the place and I'm very sure this can help alot. biglaugh.gif

This is fine, but there are some boundaries that need to be set. A lot of the other "specialized" forums (Media Center, etc) could be considered "general interest" -- but for RuneScape stuff, the only people interested are those who actually play the game. This goes for other specific games as well, and a few other things (RP threads, etc), but RuneScape is our biggest offender. RS threads end up not only where they should be (RS Faction), but also in GD, Cafeteria, SeeD Inn, the inactive Garden forums, and the hyperactive Winhill Garden forum.

I know there needs to be a balance between "OMG, YOU POSTED IN THE WRONG PLACE; BAN!!!" and "Meh, who cares...," but I think we're leaning toward the latter right now.

Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze.

It sounds like a good idea to me. It will help newer SeeD RS members find their way to what they want to see. I'm sure they'll like to check out GD too, but RS related threads should go where they belong grnwink.gif .
