It's not necessary to know a person to be able to grieve or to be sad. I'm guessing you had slightly more empathy during events such as Sept 11, Katrina, boxing day Tsunami, etc. You didn't know those people either, so it's simply a difference in magnitude. Furthermore his celebrity status and the down-to-earth larrikin style that made him famous also made him easy to identify with for many people. I was never a fan, but neither do I find anything humourous or positive in the tragic misfortune of another. Particularly when it leaves two young children without a father.

While others might not agree with that, I really do wonder about anyone who finds humour in a person being stabbed through the heart...

Well... You do prove a point with your last post, but I think you need to tone down your expression a bit. While I don't really give a damn about whether you liked Steve Erwin or not, other people here obviously do and you should respect that. Keep those thoughts to yourself.

He saved animals that would otherwise not make it in the wild, and did his shows to get people closer to animals they wouldn't otherwise see. He was a conservationist, and wanted to help animals as well as educate people about them.
