Maybe we could give an item to people that gives them a higher post count to get started with. I'm thinking some people might get turned off by this game with such a low post count, so a way of making them start off with something a bit higher might entice people to join. Here's my idea:
Ring of n00bs (Persistent Effect = Wearer automatically has a post count of 500, regardless of his or her actual post count; Finger Slot)
This item would give anyone wearing it a post count of 500. It would be a great item for people who don't yet have a pc of 500, and a horrible item for those who have surpassed 500.

Hmm... I think it's a good idea. Might need a bit of refining, but....
Anyways, yeah. I think there should be a bit more roleplay quality put into the actual ring. Like, really... That's a sucky name
And yeah. Stuff like that.
Also, I don't think people should just -automatically- have it. My idea is that there is a low level quest where the monsters power and everything is based on your post count (the max post count being, of course, 500 in this instance), and they have to get through it to get the ring. It would be moderately challenging at any post count. This would make it so there would have to be at least a -little- effort put into it to get the ring, and people couldn't just appear at low levels and get it

Knew you'd say that.

Anyway, i agree with Darkness. A quest like that would also help introduce newer members to the DS quest system.

I dunno, it kind of counteracts the fact that those with higher post counts are more powerful than those with lower post counts. If newbies are allowed to achieve the ring, then it would only be fair if those with high post counts have the opportunity have getting it, too.
I think we would just need to make newbie-friendly quests. Or adjust a quest's difficulty depending on the strength of the person who is participating.

In no way would such a ring make one player stronger than any other player. If you have a post count of one, the ring gives you a post count of 500; if you have a post count of 10000, the ring still gives you a post count of 500. It's just a way of helping n00bs get started. As for the entry quest, I think that's a great idea. Maybe we can have a section of the void where a new player would sign up for their first quest... one that would get them accustomed to darkstorm. The ring, or another verion of it, could be given as a reward.

Well, 10 stat points are already given for a new player to start off with.

.. but what's the point of having the lower skills?
They'll get to better abilities eventually if they remain active. And I don't think interest for a forum RPG stems from stats, but from stories, and actual roleplaying.

Don't you do that?

And where is Cspace when you need him? >.<
