This is my idea for ranged weapons in "DS 2"...

Weapons themselves cannot attack characters from other locations. Sounds weird, but it's a tedious thing to balance for a forum game (and it results in some weird numbers for weapons that should do more or less damage than would work). Some locations are also rather big, it wouldn't make sense to hit someone in Dharonia from Zolandor with a pistol. Besides, it can be more realistically roleplayed within the same location. Oh, and who says you can't shoot from point-blank?

Now obviously these weapons need to do damage in a different manner... Strength doesn't do much for bullets or arrows. That's no problem though, with the vast number of builds brought about by the upcoming class system more stats are needed anyway. Seems crazy, having so many different stats... But not really. All planned stats that actually have an impact on how you fight are Affinity (completely replacing "Energy", which won't be tied to post count after the update) and Vitality (hit points). All the rest are used in formulae for specific abilities and equipment, and don't have inherent effects of their own. Indeed, I'm trying to simplify things, it's not as complicated as I'm making it sound. bluetongue.gif

Anyway, I'm thinking about adding a counterpart to "Strength" for ranged weapons. It would be something along the lines of accuracy, and would add to damage done by a ranged weapon. My reason for doing this, roleplay reasons aside, is that characters should not all be a shade of gray even though anyone can dabble in many trees. Characters should have their own strengths and weaknesses.

While doing this, abilities revolving around melee weapons would focus on damage. Being hit with a sword or axe will hurt more than being shot, heh. On the other side, those who focus on ranged weapons would get some more tactical abilities such as status effects tied to their weapon(s). It all depends on where one shoots the guy and what he/she is shot with. grinning-smiley-048.gif

Anyway, in short, I'm thinking about making ranged weapons simply a different discipline for a character, not something to give a rather pointless advantage which merely involves the locations of two characters. Besides, "ranged" attacks have caused a bit of confusion in the past...

What do you think about this?

It's hard understand the system without being able to play with it. Do what you will, and it sounds great... but until we get to test it out, I can't say if its good.

What about technologically themed characters, will they get melee weapons too?
I have trademarked the symbol: '™'. You fail at display names.
