Proposed Changes #3
#1
Posted 25 July 2008 - 08:56 PM
This is a new and consolidated list of likely changes:
1) The gaming division will simply be a category. The Game Room will assimilate Balamb Garden.
2) The intellectual division will simply be a category. Operation Mi'ihen will be archived.
3) Shinra will dissolve. The Shinra Building will assimilate the Reception Desk, and will become a general cSpace help, suggestion, and discussion forum. That forum will move to the Bridge, and the then-empty Shinra category will be released into the space between internets.
4) Those with positions in any of those three divisions can receive similar positions after the change. Others can still receive positions, but nobody will unwillingly lose positions as a result of the changes.
5) SeeD will become a mercenary guild, and will be placed in the same category as DoA.
6) The shop will be disabled.

1) Okay.
2) What will the intellectual category be called? MindSpace?
3-4) Okay.
5) Seed still = RuneScape, correct? And DoA isn't mercenary, too, is it?
6) Okay.
7) Let's do it.

Not sure

SeeD is in any game, but will still have a presence in RS. DoA will still be a general GW guild, but in SeeD there could be GW mercenaries. A member could belong to both and effectively be a mercenary in DoA, if he or she wishes.

What is Operation Mi'ihen anyway?

(but what about those who are seriously inactive? I'd suggest a "hold-zone/hold-period" lol .. where they don't "lose" their positions but need to post that they still want the responsibilities for said positions.

What is "SeeD"? Just a mercenary guild related to no specific/particular game, or something else entirely?

6) The shop will be disabled.
I'm still disappointed about this, is there actual need for this or just concerns?

Was going to handle the newsletter and stuff.

You're right. I think Shinra can be put to good use plugging a leak somewhere. Most webmasters don't know about memory leaks until it's too late!

Sure, I'll just wait until one requests a new position.

It would be a mercenary guild that exists in any game, but would focus where our members are active. We would seek to assist other guilds with tough challenges such as raids, PvP, and un-ranked wars. In some games such as RS, smaller guilds may request help in wars that aren't part of a ladder (we would have nothing to do with ranked wars). In some games such as WoW, guilds may want help in some sort of large-scale PvP scheme. In games like EverQuest, guilds may want help with flagged raids so they can reach the higher-end PvE content.
It means fun for us, and relief for guilds that need help. It could also be a means for recruiting, since this kind of guild isn't that common.

Mainly concerns, but I want to keep third-party mods to a minimum. They could interfere with updates, and when they are no longer supported they would either be forced to be disabled, or someone will pick them up who doesn't know the code as well as the creator. Also, looking at the code I'm a little concerned that the shop could provide a back-door to mod powers.
I'm not that worried, but the concern is enough that I wouldn't want it to just be an idle feature.

I just like that we're on our third set of ideas.
All of that sounds great, especially the mercenary idea for SeeD. If I remember way back when, that's where we started. And it's always good to get back to your roots now and then.
Maybe we could still do a newsletter though? That sounds like a pretty neat idea if any members are interested in maintaining it.

This is all fine with me, even though I will miss the shop a bit, but if it could cause problems, I'll deal with it. As far as the status of Balamb Garden, I think it probably would be better if it was merged with the Game Room since it is just general RuneScape stuff, not mercenary stuff, and SeeD won't be RuneScape-specific anyway.
Does that make any sense?
Does that make any sense?
