IC:
The world of Arevin, a world so vast that no explorer has ever yet mapped the full extent of the lands. Our story takes place in the province of Ros'nuit, a nation founded long ago by those who followed the Goddess of Illusions. Mist hangs over its mountainous regions, not giving way even when the mountains stretch flat into plains. We find in this nation two gods -- Vuurin Firerider, the God of Fire, and Alivyn Mythweaver, the Goddess of Illusions.

And yes, Alivyn was to go somewhere. She had been certain of it, wandering this place. It was founded by her followers, so it was possible that that had something to do with the constant, nudging thought at the edge of her mind. She knew it meant there was something to do here... somewhere here, blast it. If she would ever find the right spot. In fact, she was not even sure of the land here. Or maybe she was, only the fog was playing with her mind. Abruptly, she halted and laughed at that thought, right there. Fog could not, would not, play with her mind. Not the Goddess of Illusions herself. No, it was quite often the other way round, for Alivyn was the one who took it as a responsibility to create false images, false words, in the minds.
She started walking once more, not even in the direction she'd been going only a minute before. But it did not matter, did it? Wherever she went, the fog followed. So she might as well just go where she willed. And she soon realized she'd willed herself to stride to the very edge of a mountain. The mist was so strong on it, but it seemed to drop without explanation with the mountain's edge. Holding her breath, she quickly took a couple of short steps back, looking down with wonder at the swirling cauldron of blue-grey below. She became so entranced by it that she stood there like that for more than a few minutes.

The slightest thing could cause similar results, but only tenfold. Using Fire to light a candle when one had such capabilities within them could cause an immediate explosion of Fire hundreds of miles away, or set the capital city of the neighboring nation aflame. Gods knew of these consequences, and thus held their power at bay. And yet today, Vuurin did nothing of the sort. Was it perhaps because he doubted he'd use his power? It wasn't as if he was about to be spotted in the dense mist.
Blasted fog... he muttered to himself, dimming his powers and thus leaving himself in a more mortal form. As he held up his hand, palm pointd to the sky, in front of him, a ball of fire about the size of a fist appeared hovering above it, perhaps a foot off his gloved hand. The light fell around it, lessening the sight debilitating powers of the fog by a few yards.
Even in this mortal form, a form that Vuurin often took, he was still a fearsome sight. He was in armor that had black splotches across it, as if it had been scorched by fire on several occasions. Sinuously curving spikes came up from the pauldrons, grasping towards the skies for a good four inches, tortured hands reaching for sunlight. His cuirass was seemingly perfectly formed to fit his body, seeming not to restrict his movement whatsoever, and still giving protection like no other armor could. His greaves were just as scorched and well fitting, leading down into black leather boots, turned down at the top. A black cape, fringed by dark silver, spread behind him, billowing out when he walked. The cape also showed signs of fire, ending abruptly about an inch above his ankles in ragged tendrils, probably a good two inches higher then it had been before it burned.
His helmet covered his whole head, ending only for an inch gap from the bottom to the middle where his nose and mouth could be seen, and then branching off in a 'y' shaped to reveal his eyes. More spikes curved up from it, almost reflecting ornate horns of some sort.
Needless to say, any mortal man to see Vuurin Firerider -- a man in blackened, twisting armor holding a fireball above his hand -- would likely die of fright.

Not about to let go of that thought now, Alivyn peered into the mist, her head bent down slightly. She decided the strange fire-type glow had to be coming from the same mountain, but it was not towards the top, or the light would at least be level with the top of the mountain itself. Curiously, she set to seeking the crimson light. It seemed out of place; it had to have been caused by something or the order. Or someone? Alivyn stopped, an irritated frown on her face. What would someone be doing here, in the middle of nowhere, without the ability to even see? Well... not very far, anyway. At least they had attempted to see, with that light, or whatever it was. Fire?
Standing there would do no good. She took more steps forward, pressing on through the mist; it seemed damp now, holding her back. But whatever that was, she would uncover it, very soon.
And uncover it she did, but it seemed as if she would almost be on top of the sight if she had not stopped. The fire, as she realized it was, was alive and seemingly floating over a gloved palm. Alivyn took in the person to whom the palm belonged to, her calm expression changed - somehow, it did not seem to show any emotion, but it was as if it had been disturbed by something while trying to concentrate.
"So we meet once again." She spoke into the fog, casually as if commenting on the crops this year.

It was strange, then, that he had not sensed the other God's presence before he heard her voice. After all, even in mortal form, Gods gave off a certain amount of energy that any God should be able to recognize. Yet he had let her approach him, take him by surprise. If their positions had been switched, Vuurin would have immediately struck out with his power before speaking and giving the opponent time to react. But Alivyn was not a God of Evil.
As Vuurin turned to face the Goddess of Illusions, the ball of flame went out, and the hand returned to his side to the metal shaft of a morning star at his waist. The hand hovered over it; not quite touching it, but able to pull it from it's sheath at a moment's notice just the same.
"Alivyn," he said simply, acknowledging her presence but not wasting time on pointless formalities. "I would ask what you are doing here, but I suppose that that question would be better posed to me, as it appears I am in your territory." His arms folded as he stood in a more relaxed position.
"I'll save you the breath. I have no purpose here; I merely found Ros'nuit a good place to think. However, we aren't on necessarily good terms I suppose. Perhaps it was a mistake to come here, eh?" he questioned. Most Gods were find Vuurin's lack of a fiery temper strange, but it could easily be attributed to many things. After all, who's to say he simply had nothing to be mad about for now? It was just as likely that in a few moments he could flare up and burn something in anger.

"I would ask what you are doing here, but I suppose that that question would be better posed to me, as it appears I am in your territory."
She kept quiet as Vuurin went on - that suited her fine. There was much to be learned by listening and much less to be gained by talking, especially if one was talking to another god. Risky, that, gods did not have the foolish minds of mortals. They did not often wander away with their thoughts, however important, to immediately skip to speculations. No, that was no the way of gods. Therefore, words actually had meaning when it involved them.
However, we aren't on necessarily good terms I suppose."
Alivyn thought about that first part. No, she guessed they weren't exactly the best of friends. Not even close, at that. Was it a risky thing, then, being there right then? If one temper rose, it would not be possible to know how it would all end. She normally tried to steer away from meetings like this, but how could she have foretelled this?
"Perhaps it was a mistake to come here, eh?"
Alivyn could not tell if he meant if it had been a mistake for Vuurin himself to have come, or for her to be there. She realized she was now looking at him coldly, her arms by her side where she could reach her sword at any given warning. For the sake of the mortals that may or may not be close by, she hoped that warning would not come. But if it did... well, there was a reason gods carried their weapons with them at all times.
"I do not see any reason why there should be any trouble." She was not sarcastic about it, but her tone held a slight question in it, as if challenging him to give a reason.

And yet here was Alivyn, thinking that this would not end up in fighting. Had she known Vuurin all these millenia to have forgotten one of his most noteworthy traits? Vuurin was known for instigating among the most bloody and life tolling wars, wars that had brought kingdoms to their knees and left millions dead. Throughout history, it was him who had let his rage power him, him who had let darkness twist his mind to the point where it seemed almost impossible for him to meet another god and not lose his temper. When among other dark gods, it seemed he was able to control himself to some extent, knowing that they were -- at least to a certain point -- his allies, and they would rise up against him if he were to betray them with immediate violence.
But the other gods... They should have known by then that he would fight them to his last breath, fight them unless Vassagor herself had told him not to. She was the only one he deferred to, and that only grudgingly. It was her that his mind was constantly plotting to destroy. But she had set no restrictions... The other gods were considered prey.
As thoughts of this went through his mind, letting a full ten or so seconds pass in silence between the two gods, it would have been noticeable that Vuurin's anger was, in fact, rising. Of course, for Vuurin, one would know that if he was not taken by battle rage, anger would manifest itself in other changes in appearance and personality -- his shoulders would likely stiffen, his backbone straighten, pulling him to his full height... His face would take on a look of utmost calm, his voice as undisturbed as a clear blue lake on a windless day. And all of these were happening... His face curved into a small, yet clearly sinister smile. He found no need to fight just yet... It would be far more enjoyable to goad his opponent into anger first, or at least set the stage for a later battle.
"Alivyn, answer me this. What is the strength you see in the power of Illusion? With Fire I can create..." He stretched his arm out and a blade of molten fire coalesced in it. His eyes, heavily lidded, looked at the blade almost dreamily, his voice taking on a far softer and drawling tone. "My handiwork can destroy..." The sword fell from his unmoving fingers, spinning 180 degrees before sinking into the ground with a small 'ching!' as it cut through earth and stone. Tendrils of fire spread out from where the blade and ground met, expanding out in a circle, turning the earth it passed over dead and brown. The fiery advance ended about two feet away from the sword in all directions.
"Yet Illusion... You can create an exact duplicate of my sword, but what can you do with it? You could hold it, make yourself feel it's touch... You could stab it through my heart, make me feel the pain of it's entering! You could make me feel as if my life was draining from me, make my body faint from the false pain! Yet I would not be dead. I would not even be injured. Your blade would not have pierced even my skin, for it did not exist. Where is the strength in this?"

Indeed, tossing so much of oneself into challenging winds was not completely unavoidable, not for Alivyn. Her defence was unique in that aspect; it not only protected her, but attacked her opponent at the same time. Illusion. It was so clear to her, she was at a loss as to why some, like Vuurin, did not understand it - and actually questioned the success of illusion. When illusion hit someone, it would most likely slow them down in some way or the other. But it would not take anything from the caster of the illusion herself! That was the power of it, the whole reason it worked so effectively. Now, a dead soldier lying at the feet of the warrior who killed him would not seem like an especially grand victory if said warrior had been stabbed in the face by the soldier he'd killed. That was give and take. With illusion, it was only attack.
And now, Vuurin even went as far as to try to prove fire a greater source of power as illusion. Her eyes clouded, and she needed only a glance at the fog-protected clouds overhead to look around and hear, feel, and see the pitter-patter of raindrops all around. Because of the mist and the blended-in look of her cape, it made it quite difficult to notice, but not one drop was touching her.
And a good thing. This drizzle, it was not ordinary rain. Every drop carried tiny bolts of electricity, piercing anything it fell on. The diligency of the steady droplets only added to the shock of the rain if and when it hit skin, for they were always around, not off and on.
And the best part was, this electrifying rain was not real. Yes, it could spread through cloth, curve through bends of armour, create pesky little pains that would soon turn the brightest mortal mad... but it only existed in the mind.
"Vuurin, you fail to realize the impact of illusion. The effects of it may not exist, but the illusion itself is very much real. Do you think it would be pleasant, this 'rain' going on forever?"

Attuned senses allowed Vuurin to notice that the rain was not touching Alivyn. By the nature of this rain -- it's strange electric effects -- and the manner in which it fell, he had already assumed it was created by Alivyn. This merely fortified the thought. And again his mind was pulled back... Vesil could make rain fall from the heavens, real rain. E'llorin could strike the earth with lightning that shocked and burned, real lightning. But this was not real. There was no strength in this.
However... Vuurin could destroy, create, take life and give life with his fire... Fire flared up around him, not harming him -- for what fire could harm the creator of all fire that ever existed? Fire flared out through gaps between armor, burning across the 'y' shape of the gap in his helmet. It blinded him -- but he saw through the fire. This could be interpreted as if he had some sort of vision that could see through the vision, but this was not so -- he could use the fire as his eyes.
As Alivyn spoke, Vuurin's burning gaze moved back to her face. "For any mortal, I suppose they would not enjoy interminable rain of this sort. But even for a mortal... Such fake rain could easily be countered. But yet... find me a mortal who can counter this..."
The ground around and beneath Alivyn ignited in a two yard radius. The fire raised up, enclosing the Goddess in a fiery cage. The fire expanded inward, searing Alivyn's flesh. Vuurin's voice rang out, now suddenly as cold as the fire was hot. "Tell me... You can make it look as if this fire is not there, even remove the pain of it from your body. But you can do nothing to stop it, nothing to stop the effects it has on your body."

Unfortunately for Lenwe, this game was about to come to an abrupt end. Such an activity becomes considerably harder in a land that is as unpredictable as a geriatric's hunger pangs. Consequently, Lenwe did not notice the fairly large hole that appeared, seemingly from thin air, or in this case, inexplicably humid air, before him. "Oof! Damn, I was going pretty well with that." Clambering from the hole, Lenwe looked around at his surroundings properly for the first time, instead of his shoes, which is something you need to do when playing that particular game to the best of your ability. There wasn't much to see. To call it 'foggy' would be like calling Mao Zedong 'a bit unpleasant'. Lenwe could not see a thing, except a faint glow coming from the direction in which Vuurin's footprints. "Well well well, what do we have here? A cliché, perhaps?"
As Lenwe continued in Vuurin's footsteps, and rain started to fall. Electric rain. It was like Chinese water torture. Not painful at all, but every drop fizzled out all thought in your brain, leaving only a brief moment where one could think before fizzling out that thought too. Too much exposure to this would drive one beyond repair.
But at last, he had full view of what was occuring. Too full view. He quickly ducked down, but his exposure to their eyesight was very brief, and the two gods, Vuurin and Alivyn, the god of Illusions with the difficult-to-spell-name, were talking to each other, and therefore not looking in his direction. Lenwe quickly buried himself in the Earth, all except his eyes. "Time in reconnaissance is rarely wasted" so said someone who
