Just had a meeting with the careers councellor at school to decide my big big future. I'm confused... bluetongue.gif

Next year (Year 10, freshman I believe? biglaugh.gif ) I'm taking the core subjects, and two VCE subjects, IT 1&2 and Psychology 1&2. Also taking advanced maths as like a choice (Foundation/Core/Advanced) Kind of unusual for students to take two VCE subjects, I'm supposedly a high achiever... Which kinda scares me.

I'm still not sure what I want to do though, I'm interested in IT and Accounting equally, so it's hard for me to make up my mind about what I want to do. Big plan....:

Year 11:
One English Subject
Math Methods
Specialist Maths
Accounting
IT 3&4
Psych 3&4

Year 12:
English 3&4
Methods 3&4
The Other math ones 3&4
Accounting 3&4
And possibly an accounting enhancement course (Basically first year uni while you're still at school, but I'll have to get a high ENTER score for that)

Anyway, what are you taking/have you taken??

Not like the system makes sense anywhere outside Victoria, hehe. bluetongue.gif

Year 11 (This Year):

English Language (special analytical version of English, fairly new subject)
Maths Methods
General Maths B (Which leads on to Spec, I really hope you're not doing Unit 3&4 Specialist Maths at yr 11, Bigbro icon_sweatdrop.gif )
Physics
Chemistry
VET CISCO Networking
Some stupid Religion class my school forces on people

Year 12:
All the same, except Specialist Maths instead of GMB, and no Religion.

I'm not actually taking any year 12 classes this year, but I'm doing an extra subject next year so that will be quite, quite evil. nonono2.gif

I wouldn't mind taking a VET course like that, but they don't offer very many at my school sad.gif

They don't offer very many here, and I'm only doing CISCO because the school messed up what I actually chose. nonono2.gif

Turned out pretty well though, so I don't mind. TheSmile.gif

I'm in NSW. and yeah, that doesn't make a great deal of sense to me... Although it seems similar to what I had, so I kind of know what you're talking about bluetongue.gif

I don't even remember what I did, lol..
Lets see....

Erm..

English
Intermediate Maths (I should've been higher, lol. I topped my class for almost 4 years straight, without working bluetongue.gif)
Software Design & Development
Drama
Ancient History
Photography
Visual Design

I think that's all I did for yr 11 & 12. I had no idea what I wanted to do so I chose kind of bludgy subjects str.gif

Right now, I'm just about to finish my one year course & get a certificate II in graphic design. I'm probably going to be doing a 4 year course to get certificate III. TheSmile.gif

Hehe Goto's scared everyone does the stuff he's doing and they're younger. Mind you, in NZ we only do snatches of what you do at your year level so don't worry mister. bluetongue.gif

Anyway, in NZ they decided to scrap the School Certificate system a few years ago and decided that New Zealand should have a unique (yet stupid) system... so they created NCEA. Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I *think* it stands for National Certificate of Educational Achievement. You start your certificate papers in Year 11. In Year 11 you take NCEA Level 1, Year 12 it's NCEA Level 2 and Year 13 it's NCEA Level 3. However since I'm in the "top class" or "smart class" - whatever you want - they've decided to "extend" us in Year 10 so currently I'm doing:

Year 10:

Science - NCEA Level 1
History - NCEA Level 1
English - Year 10 & some NCEA Internal Papers
Mathematics - Year 10 & some NCEA Internal Papers
Physical Education - Year 10
Music - Year 10
Spanish - Year 10

I only have a general idea of what I want to do in future years but I have my choices for next year... if I get good enough grades. icon_sweatdrop.gif

Year 11:

Double Science (8 periods a week instead of 4) - (IGCSE) Cambridge O Level
History - (IGCSE) Cambridge O Level
English - (IGCSE) Cambridge O Level
Mathematics - (IGCSE) Cambridge O Level
Spanish - NCEA Level 1

It kinda sucks... my school currently doesn't offer Spanish at Cambridge O Level

Year 12:

Chemistry - (IGCSE) Cambridge AS Level
Biology - (IGCSE) Cambridge AS Level
English Literature - (IGCSE) Cambridge AS Level
History - NCEA Level 2 (or 3?)
Mathematics - NCEA Level 2 (or 3?)
Spanish - NCEA Level 2

Gah... Year 12 is bad because the school only offers four subjects at Cambridge AS Level... And I'm not too sure if you can skip to NCEA Level 3 after doing an O Level paper...

Year 13:

English Literature - (IGCSE) Cambridge A Level
Chemistry - NCEA Level 3 (hopefully A Level if I can charm a teacher)
Biology - NCEA Level 3 (hopefully A Level if I can charm a teacher)
History - NCEA Level 3
Mathematics - NCEA Level 3
Spanish - NCEA Level 3

Grr... Year 13 is the worst because they only offer ONE subject at Cambridge A Level... it sucks because you need special permission to do an A Level paper for a different subject. Even then it'll be tough...

Ooo, Cambridge, somebody's posh :O

Was looking through the Monash Uni book trying to work out what to take at uni, thinking about a double degree; Bachelor of Business (Accounting)/Information Technology and Systems.

But I think I'll have a year off to travel because I'm pretty young compared to most people, might come see you guys in the states TheSmile.gif (And you Janey!)

Yaaay! Come visit Matt! Even though your dad wants me to come over to visit I highly doubt my parents would let me go to Melby... I've already been on holiday to Asia this year and in 2007 our Spanish class is going to Argentina... so it'll be lame if I have no spending money for Argy if I go to Melby.

Posh = Fancy, rich, prim & proper etc.

Basically means you put on airs and such... but I'm not posh Matt. bluetongue.gif

Oh speaking of Cambridge... had to go see Mr. Wilson today. It seems that there aren't enough people to make up a class for IGCSE History next year... so I had to choose a different subject. The evil school won't let me take NCEA Level 2 History next year even though I've already done Level 1 this year... so I chose to do Classical Studies instead. It should be extremely fun with Mr. Hassall teaching. biglaugh.gif

I've lived in the United States all my life and, aside from you guys, have met only two people from Australia. No conversations regarding this subject took place. So I have NFI what you're talking about.

As for my classes...

11th Grade:
Intermediate Band (should have been in Advanced, but it conflicted with English, and our new Director seems to think the two bands are truly separate)
AP English III ("AP" is "Advanced Placement, highest level of the course -- in this case, with an insane teacher. Insane in a bad way.)
Photo I
Math Analysis (Pre-Calculus by any other name)
AP US History
Chemistry

12th Grade:
English IV CP ("CP" is College Preparatory, below AP. Got moved down because I couldn't stand the teacher last year and got a C-.)
Advanced Band
Physics (The US is crazy; we only get one year of Physics instead of doing it every year like the rest of the world)
Yearbook (with a bit of Graphic Design thrown in for good measure. Took it because Video Arts got cancelled (and brought back after I'd switched! :scream), as did Photo II.)
Economics (only one semester; switches to Civics after Christmas)
AP Calculus AB

Our school sucks. I can type and I know HTML, so the only computer class useful to me is Computer Repair -- which I can't take since it's two periods. And that's mostly because they let you take the A+ Cert test for free at the end. We didn't even have a Psychology class until this year.
Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze.

That's okay, our system is confusing even if you're a part of it.
