The thing about cisco networking that you non-cisco foolios tend to forget is that I actually have to work during my spares, or I'll end up failing the course (like Darkie, Sparks and Rangers may well end up doing ).

Plus there's the tuesday afternoons, plus we have to spend one saturday a month studying it, with like... a 1.5 hour drive each way to get to the place. Ends up being more work than any other subject.


Rat did a pretty good job of explaining our school, our school is kind of weird though. In Victoria at least (I think the states differ a little bit), state schools go like this:

Kindergarten: Usually one or two years before you start school
Primary: Prep-6 (7 years, since 'Prep' is essentially 0)
Secondary: 7-12


Our school splits it up into a Junior, Middle and Senior, so it's like this:

Junior: Prep-4
Middle: 5-8
Senior: 10-12

Year Nines are seperate to everyone else, they've got their own building and have a much more hands-on curriculum, and a different uniform. From experience though, most of that year was spent playing CS on our laptops.

Yeah, "recess" stops being in your schedule as soon as elementary school is over . As for you Aussies and NZers, I can tell from what I've heard and seen that your schools aren't nearly as strict as American schools (or so it seems ). The best example I can think of is Callum's videos. The content and even the whole concept would not be allowed in my school (and most American schools). For example, if I had some person wearing a bra or a sequence where everyone was being chased down and killed by Romans and whatnot (which were both highlights from both of the videos ) I and the rest of the group would most likely have detentions or possibly suspensions as a result. If I were caught in my computer classes playing CS, I would automatically be failed in the class, possibly fined, and have an increased chance of being expelled . Basically, you can't do anything without the deans slapping you with punishments .

And about our movies, the first one, the documentry, we got failed for that cos "We had an upper-hand over the other students becuase we made that outside of school", which I think we should have been applauded for our dedication to our work (It's just that that teacher's a *nasty word :O*

And you have to get three 'demerits' to get a detention, for most things. And that's in one day. So you have to do three stupid things in one day to get a detention. Unless it's something realllly bad.

That doesn't happen here. You only get detentions if the teacher who caught you uses the detention 'strategy'. Most teachers will tell you you've got a detention and then either pretend to forget about it or give you a second chance, in case they actually do have to spend more time with irritating kids than they get payed for. Some teachers humiliate you as punishments instead of detentions, others remove privilages and so forth, one even forced us to sign fake legal contracts in the hope of scaring us. On the other hand, some teachers do absolutely nothing, e.g our music teacher was telling us what we were going to do in the lesson and some kid shouted "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING, WOMAN? I CAN'T BELIEVE WE PAY TO DO THIS!" and she said something along the lines of 'Now now, was that a very nice thing to say?'. If I were her i think I'd chuck the nearby bongo at him.

But yeah, from what Nighthawk is saying, you guys have it a bit tougher. They don't really bother with detentions anymore, they're much more likely to just fail us in classes if we're not getting our work done. Still, what you're talking about is just excessively and pointlessly strict.


And while we do have a 'Recess', from memory I believe you guys have a few minutes between classes, to get books and such. We go straight from class to class, so it may well even out. And the amount of lunchtimes I missed last year for work and things was just ridiculous.

My community has 6 schools. We have 2 schools for grades K-3, Elementary has 4-6, our Middle School has 7 and 8, and our High School has 9-12. We also have a catholic school that does K-8, I think. Now that I think about it, our Highschool is getting really crowded. Freshmangenocide anyone?

Our system is really weird. We start 1st period at 7:30, then have homeroom in the same classroom at 8:11-8:20. After that, we have 41 minutes periods with 4 minutes in between, for 9 periods total. We get out at 2:20. It's not too bad.

We get lunch and study halls (I get a first period study hall next semester!!!).

We got to sit in a gym today for a bomb threat. I think the 6th graders bleed sugar. At least I think that judging on how they act. 2nd one in my time in Middle School.


BTW, that's the 6-8 middle school.

I don't know if it's the same is Aussieland**, but in Ameriland** PhD is the highest you can get.

In reply to Goto, yes it is true, many of our schools are exactly as described. We do have 5-6 minute "passing periods" where you are allowed to go to your locker and get the books for the next class. Many also use that time to talk in the halls and whatnot .

And I call you lucky for that...

Ahh well my whole class last year always took like 5mins to get to our next class so we always had around about 55mins in our core subject unless we were having a fun lesson that period or we were having something REALLY important going on.

One time me and Adrian Laird were running late for class by 15mins 'cause we had Music before and we were in the assembly listening to the band play since Mr. Mayall had let us. Just so happened that we had our Astronomy Test the period after Science so we were 15mins into the period... so we decided that we'd spend a little longer in Music to avoid the test so we just took a little detour and walked around the whole school.

We turned up about 20-25mins late into the period... and it just so happens that Mr. Consedine had arrived in class late and he had to rush back to get the test papers and when we entered the class everyone had just started the test... so really me and Adrian had gained nothing.
