I think we should make the shout box available to the public agin. The last time the shout box was used was in 2005 and I like it being updated more oftin. I liked it when people would post the latest new topics link on there. It would show me to the topic thats realy active and fun. That is why I thin we should make it back to being for the public. But also you must post important stoff on it and not just spam.

I agree. Although spamming the shoutbox can sometimes be fun.

I have trademarked the symbol: '™'. You fail at display names.

Things which you should look at:
SKoA - http://skoa.cspacezone.com/ , if you have any Age of Empires games.
The DS Garden Festival Minigame - Link , whether you play DStorm or not.
The Most Mysterious SSSS - Link For people who don't care about...things.
Like LEGO? Play Blockland!

The problem was [and is] it is hard to moderate every single post that is made, so there was [and would be] spam so yeah that's why it was changed to Moderator Notices.

True, but I think we can overcome this. A mod doesnt have to chek every day for spam. Maye we can even go a bit further with it. We can have a special mod for it. I mean we have mods for some old forums that barly get any new topics. So I think we can find one for the shout box.

That really hit me as a good idea, but I'm not sure how to implement things that way. It's a good thought, I like it.. It definitely made me ponder for a bit..

Lol, ponder, you watched Pinky and the Brain too much Star.
Anyway, the reason it was taken away from members is because of the spam, occasional insulting, etc. It doesn't give the site a good image when it's on our front page at the top. I'm not sure how lenient the rules are now for what the mods can give notices on, I'll look up on it. If it's more lenient than I thought, I could occasionally post some hot (or unusual) threads on it.

I loved the ol' shoutbox.
Especially because if I wanted to just show up and say something completely random or just chat with people about something that doesn't deserve a topic.
A solution to people making ofensive or hurtful shouts, there are shoutbox moderation options:
-Say something deemed ofensive or hurtful, banned from the shoutbox for a day or whatever
-Spam it up a ton, get banned for say... an hour
-Little things like being annoying, a warning
And plus Cspace can pick people to be shoutbox moderators.
Another thing is that the IRC chat gets almost no use. Hardly anyone is even in there or even bothers to arrange chats. I suppose we could have a nightly schedueled chat although I would still love to have the shoutbox aswell.

Hmm.. I was talking to Cspace when he was trying to work out what to do about the Shoutbox a while ago.
If I remember correctly, I think it wasn't so much the spam. He was more worried about the fact that to someone who didn't know the site too well, it looked kind of 'official'. It didn't really present a good image of the site when the shoutbox was offensive, or if it linked to something inappropriate or downright hazardous.
Also, a few people had been exploiting the fact that excessive spam would stretch the forums, and since the shoutbox appears on every single page of the forums, that was a problem.
I quite like the 'Mod Notices' thing, since not that many people check the homepage it gives mods a good way to advertise upcoming events or other such things. Right now it's not really reaching its potential, so it could be good to go over the ground rules of what should and shouldn't be put in the mod notices, so that more people are likely to use it.
I can see why you'd miss having the shoutbox around, though. Cspace was originally planning to look into the possibility of having a shoutbox-like thing that would only show up on the index, so that people wouldn't be forced to load it on every page they went to. If such a thing could be incorporated as well as the mod notices, it might keep everyone happy.
As for the 'shoutbox mod', I guess it's a possibility. Smods can certainly delete shouts, I'm not sure off the top of my head whether regular mods can or not. I'm not sure whether the necessity is there to have mods specifically focusing on the shoutbox, but I guess it's worth keeping in mind.

Tell Cspace to make the shout-out box only see-able by members
www.impulsetfc.com have it so that the shout out box can be seen by members. Btw maybe you could pay some sort of Gil to use the shout-out box for N amout of times.

Another good option would the D-Shoutbox; in my opinion, it is the finest shoutbox software out there. And most importantly, it has the option of allowing selected people to moderate the shoutbox by deleteing/edit shouts and such.
I think it will work on all IPBs but i'm not sure. And this is a great time to install one since they just released a new version that was way better than the previous one.
