I'm sorry that the update is taking so long... Back near the beginning of my progress I gave a vague estimate of completion being in 2007, which is indeed going to be the case ( bluetongue.gif ), but I'm getting the impression that members expected something sooner. I'm receiving complaints and nudges about it, and I just ask for a little patience with getting the update ready.

Even though I have big plans for DS and AoA in the future (and this update is part of them), at the immediate moment there are aspects of the site that require more time and involve a lot more members. I also have a busy schedule and sometimes have difficulty finding a few hours to focus on something here. I promise that the update is still continuing, but right now my greatest concern is activity, and this must pull my attention toward SeeD and related aspects of the community. After all, the update won't do much good for DS if there aren't enough members here to allow for interaction. eek13.gif

But again, the update is coming. It will be implemented before every class is completed, but I will provide a well-rounded group of them. Following the initial update I will complete the rest of the classes, as well as add the Trade class trees (which are taken into account for balancing an average character). The Trade classes will use items I plan to make available by winning "conflict" battles, hopefully giving members a reason to fight instead of all join the same side. bluetongue.gif

Looking beyond the update, what I'm setting up is designed to be easily expanded upon. Without changing how the game works, and without breaking other classes' balance, I can implement new classes and effects as necessary.

I also appreciate the offers to help that I receive now and then, but unfortunately I must turn down such requests because I'm writing a lot of this to be parallel with AoA. So I just ask for patience, the update is still coming even though my attention is diverted at this moment.

We understand that you can't focus 100% of your time and effort on DS, so don't worry about finishing it by a certain deadline. We will wait for it!

The 2007 thing I mentioned three years ago was when I intended to finish the old 'n' busted DS RPG. I ditched that for AoA which is a bit more involved. This update is basically like "DS2" in that the majority of the game is changing, but I don't think I mentioned it before last fall. bluetongue.gif

Everything is kinda scattered, looking around I'm actually surprised that everyone isn't confused... I'll outline everything here to enlighten everyone bandit.gif :

So what's coming?

- Stats and stuff

- Races updated! (and a few new ones)

- List of new classes

- The classes themselves (and how they work)

- Trade classes (for everyone) that will knock the old "Trader" class senseless

- A new conflict will come about in a similar timeframe (linked to the story's progress when it gets far enough). Here's a hint: You'll get free ocean vessels.

- "Movement" threads will be optional, except when boarding or dismounting a vehicle or ferry, going through a portal, escaping a battle, or moving as necessary for a quest or conflict. That'll take a lot of the monotony out of doing stuff here.

- The battle rules will be greatly simplified.

- A new feature linked to points awarded by GMs for good roleplaying. This will grant abilities of its own, so you'll want to roleplay well to further improve your characters. thumb.gif

It's a lot of stuff, but it will all be simpler in concept than what we have now, while providing a lot more possibilities. This is supposed to be a roleplaying game after all, so you should make your characters how you want to make them. Forget linearity, when the update is ready you'll be able to do what you want and be able to participate in scored battles.
