OOC: As many people as is wanted can join in on this quest, but remember that the goal of Darkstorm now is to successfully roleplay, and to further the main plot of your characters, not to do as many quests as possible so that your character gets rich. So if it doesn't make sense for your character to be here, then don't put them in the quest just for the sake of being in a quest bluetongue.gif

This cemetery is within the woods, on the outskirts of Durencia, and is surrounded by a small stone wall -- save for the small gate at the entrance. Generations of elves and humans have been buried here, and the elves' craftsmanship is evident in every tomb, every monument. Not a single corpse in the cemetery is buried under a plain tombstone -- every grave is graced by a sculpture. A crying angel at one place, a rearing horse and rider at another. Small mausoleums for more well-known families are present in several locations, the wealth of the family reflected in the workmanship of their final resting place.

As night falls, the rays of light that had previously shown through the leaves of the trees disappear. A new moon this night, it seems, and fog invisible in the darkness hides the stars. The night is almost pitch black. But if any were in this cemetery, and had a means with which to see, they would see something quite out of the ordinary.

A catacomb lay further back in the cemetery, which had been mostly used during times of war in centuries long past, to honor those who had died in defense of their homes. A holy place, for the elves had great reverence for the dead, and so the door was almost always locked -- the rare exception being when a relative requested a key and guide when they wished to pay their respects to lost love ones. Such a precaution was not unusual; in these dark times, it was becoming less and less unusual to hear of grave robbers.

But on this night, the large double doors that served as the main entrance to the catacomb were thrown wide open. Very strange indeed.

Call it chance that so noble a warrior as Scaf was meandering by; he called it hunger. The cemetery wasn't so out of the way that one couldn't pass through whilst looking for a decent place to grab a bite to eat. After all, this was his home. He always enjoyed Elf architecture, and often stopped at archways and the cemetery to admire the craftsmanship. This time was different. He had never seen the catacomb doors opened...never. This was a rare delight for Scaf, and he couldn't help but carefully trudge his way into the graveyard and poke his head in past the double doors.

"Hello?..."

Cold silence greeted Scaffard's call. From the entrance way, the part of the main hallway of the catacomb is visible. It seems that there are brackets lining the walls, though there are no torches in them. Due to the lack of light, the hallway is consumed by darkness, and nothing past the first ten feet or so is visible to normal eyes.

Scaf searched the near by entrance for a torch. If he could not find one, he would run off quickly to fashion one out of grass and reeds. After he has procured a torch, he proceeds to light it with a small set of flint and steel, then carries on into the labyrinth.

Only a few paces away from the entrance to the cemetery, Scaffard finds a torch lying on the ground, as if haphazardly tossed between a pair of graves. Only a foot or so away from it is found a piece of torn cloth, covered in a strange, dark liquid.

Proceeding into the catacombs with his new light, Scaffard would immediately find that at not much more than a few yards into the first hallway, it splits into two directions -- left and right. The torchlight that is thrown down both hallways by Scaffard's torch shows that both go on for some distance -- at least, it would seem so, for the light does not extend far enough to show a bend or door at the end of either. Just more darkness.

Scaf looks down both caverns skeptically before musing to himself.

"Well...I'm a righty."

And then begins down the right path slowly and steadily.

After only a few yards -- a reasonable estimate would be to say that the distance of this new hallway is the same length as the one immediately after the entrance -- the path makes a sharp bend to the left. After the bend, the hallway continues for the same distance before another hallway appears going off to the right. At this juncture, however, the path also continues forward, so it seems that Scaffard can go either right or continue in the hallway he is in.

Scaf shakes his head. "Now this is getting out of hand..."

He walks straight ahead.

The path turns abruptly to the left. After a short distance, another crossroads becomes evident. To the left is a descending staircase. The hallway continues forward. To the right is a large room. A dim light encompasses it, coming in from the night outside through high windows. The room is some sort of chapel, likely used for funerals. Rows of pews go on for much of the room, before an altar-like pedestal and a large statue.

Scaf is quite disgusted with the labyrinth of mazework inside of the catacombs.

"Oh hell."

Scaf spends ten minutes scouring the chapel area for any clues of disturbance, persons, or objects.

If he finds nothing, he proceeds forward, ignoring the staircase.

The chapel seems quite normal. The path turns ninety degrees left. After a few yards, a hallway branches right, though the path also continues forward.

Scaf can't believe this never-ending path. He goes down the turn to the right.

OOC: Well he has to show up somewhere.. haha.

A planar rift forces itself into existence, scattering decaying leaves and twigs. When the dust has settled, a darker shadow than the surrounding landscape slips towards the entrance of the catacombs. It feels warmth emanating from further in the crypt. Carefully it slouches past the open doors, wary of the slightest movement in this unfamiliar landscape.

Cacodaemon Hemoian proceeds down the hallway without a source of light, relying on it's other senses instead.

If nothing occurs, at the crossroads Cacodaemon turns left.

OOC: ... It's really not a complex path... There's no 'labyrinth of mazework' XD All you've done is make a square around a staircase going downwards in the middle, with paths moving into rooms perpendicular to the staircase. And sorry about not posting, been rather busy with my sister's wedding, and then immediately after that I had to start rehearsals for a play I'm in. So sorry bluetongue.gif

The hallway ends abruptly in a doorway before Scaffard. It seems likely that this is the gravekeeper's quarters, or something similar. The door is probably locked...

------

Cacodaemon finds that the hall turns abruptly to the right, and then, after a few more steps, a path branches off to the left and also continues forward in darkness.
