The energy in us is made by chemical potential energy, then it gets transferred to kinetic and electrical by our metabolism. When this transfer is finished a.k.a your metabolism stops working, all of the energy is transferred to chemical potential energy again which is used by other creatures especially bacteria which eats the chemical potential energy to gain kinetic and electrical energy. (a.k.a your body rots)

To whoever said (Have you ever heard of the bible?) that's hardly proof of souls existing, and in my opinion, why wonder about it? there's almost no way at all we can find out about it before we die

Theoretically (sp?) energy cannot be created or destroyed. What about humans? Don't we have energy in us that makes us move/think/live? When we die our bodies "tire." What about the energy inside of us? It has to go someplace... any thoughts?

This is a very interesting thread. Let me share something I learned from Link removed by Kimojuno. As you have mentioned, energy is neither created nor destroyed and just transformed into another form along the process. So when we die, the energy in us is converted into the form that can be used by plants and parasitic animals. These are then used as energy of these living organisms. Some parts are fossilized to become petroleum after many years. Then we used it as energy in powering industrial plants. So as you can see, energy is converted into other form and transfered along the members of the living organisms.

^^ IS there such a thing as a soul? If so, is that soul made of energy? If yes, then that soul cannot be destroyed, can it?

If all of the above are true, then does that soul (or 'energy') remain a soul, or does it go on to be converted in to plant feed (or something of the sort) once it's body passes?

I think the reason that we die is that over time our body deteriorates. Our cells grow old with us, our ability to fight off sickness weakens, our body does not rejuvenate itself and repair damage as it once did, so our bodies are no longer capable of sustaining life. Possibly the soul can only be tied to a living body? Or perhaps during decay there becomes less and less of a body to contain the soul?

For anyone interested, I recommend reading the book Spook by author Mary Roach.

This shows how great my English skills were in Year 7. 'i.e.' would be far more correct there than 'a.k.a.'.

How silly.

I am quite certain I do not have a soul, however, I am not as sure about other people.

There was a story on Catalyst a few weeks ago (Mr. Click and Mrs. Click) about ageing. It states in that programme:

QUOTE
For Brittany to grow up, billions of her cells must divide and replicate. It’s a miraculous process that began at conception, and it’s still happening inside every one of us right now.
The lining of the gut is replaced once every three days, … the bloodstream once every four months, and our skin over 10 times a year.

If our bodies are making new cells all the time, why do we grow old? Perhaps it’s due to the way we create these new cells.
You see, we copy them.

It then goes on to illustrate this by getting a picture of the infant and copying it in a photocopier. Then it takes the copied image and copies that. With every copy the quality of the image deteriorates. In DNA, this also occurs, with very small errors in the copying process growing into much, much more serious errors as life, and the copying process, goes on. This, is apparently, why we age, and is responsible for cancers and a lot of other things.

i think energy can be divided in two: physcial and psychic energy.
of course the former is supplied by your food and i think the latter is created by your mind or heart. that' s to say, if what you do is what you are interested in, your mind will be a positive and excited state and you will feel passionate and energetic, or, you will feel boring and deprive of spirit.
anyway, both of the energy will disappear along with the death of the person.
just personal opiniona.
